In the early morning hours of November 8, Russia attacked Kharkiv, hitting a residential house and injuring 18 people.
Kharkiv mayor Ihor Terekhov confirmed that a KAB-guided aerial bomb destroyed multiple floors and caused a fire in a 12-story apartment block in the city’s Saltivskyi District.
There are at least 18 injured people, and there may be more trapped under the rubble. Search and rescue operations continue at the building.
Regional Governor Oleh Simiehubov confirmed that five of the injured were hospitalized.
According to Syniehubov the attack was launched by the Russian-occupied Donetsk Oblast in Ukraine. The attack on the high-rise caused damage to adjacent buildings.
Syniehubov reported that a separate attack in the center of the city damaged administrative buildings. The shops and apartments nearby were also damaged. However, no injuries have been reported.
Kharkiv, located in the northeastern part of Ukraine and less than 30 km from the Russian border has been the target of Russian attacks for the past two full years of the war. Recent aerial strikes have intensified.
Moscow targets densely-populated neighborhoods of the city with glide bombs and missiles.
A Russian attack on October 28 damaged the Derzhprom Building (the State Industry Building), a historical landmark that has been protected by UNESCO since 2022.
