Zurab Japaridze, Leader of the Opposition, on Steps to Prevent Legitimization in Parliament

Zurab said in an interview with TV that he believes several steps should be taken in order to prevent GD from legitimizing a new parliament. This would culminate in a massive protest rally in order to prevent Georgian from legitimizing themselves and officially forming a parliament.
Japaridze pointed out that there are specific deadlines that will put the political process in a certain order over the next month. He said that the focus at the moment is filing lawsuits cases detected, and protests have been concentrated in rallies held in front of the CEC and courts. The next step is the appeals procedure, which will be handled by the courts once the CEC has published its final summary protocol.
The final vote count must be announced no later than November 21. Japaridze emphasizes that the focus before that date must be on preventing CEC and its chairman, Giorgi Kalandarishvili from writing the “Ivanishvili instructed them to write”. After that date, however, all attention will be focused on the President who, according the constitution, has ten days to convene the Parliament. According to Japaridze the president does not intend to do this.
The Parliament will convene at the end of this period and most likely proclaim its legitimacy. Zurab Japaridze said that this will be “the culmination” and “the crucial moment”, when the entire Georgia should take to its streets and not allow GD to legitimize themselves. Zurab Japaridze said that this could be achieved by other parties refusing entry into the parliament and by daily cooperating with international partners to not legitimize results from abroad.
Japaridze stated that if the GD does not legitimize the new parliament and if the GD does not do this, then events will unfold quickly: the GD will enforce the law against foreign agents fully, the Anti-Corruption resumes its persecution of and political parties, the political arena will be ‘cleansed,’ and the majority of citizens who are protesting now in the streets will depart the country.
