Trump’s presidential team said that Bryan Lanza, who appeared on a BBC show, did not work for Trump or speak for him. Lanza had sparked controversy when he suggested that Ukraine should have “a realistic vision for peace” in order to abandon claims of returning Crimea.
According to Reuters, Donald Trump’s presidential team has disavowed the statements made by Republican operative Bryan Lanza about possible territorial concessions that could be made to end the war in a future Trump administration.
Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian president, has repeatedly stated that Ukraine will never cede any of its territories to Russia. This is reflected in his recently revealed “victory plan” which reflects Ukraine’s commitment towards a just peace rather than a temporary ceasefire, which could allow Russia to regroup and resume their aggression. Trump has said he can end the war in “a day”, but he hasn’t provided any details about his strategy. He has also not ruled out that Ukraine could cede territory to Russia.
“Bryan Lanza worked as a contractor during the campaign.” He does not represent President Trump, and he does not speak on his behalf,” the unnamed Reuters spokesperson said.
In a BBC interview Lanza, referred to as a senior Trump advisor, suggested that the incoming Trump Administration would ask Ukrainian President Zelenskyy to provide a “realistic peace vision,” indicating this means deprioritizing Ukraine’s territorial recovery, which includes Crimea, in order for the war to be ended.
Lanza said that if Ukraine insists upon regaining Crimea they may be forced to proceed without US assistance, stating “Crimea has gone.”
