Ukrainian drone operators carried out over 7,000 combat missions despite difficult weather conditions in October, demonstrating the increasing role of unmanned systems for modern warfare.
According to Oleksandr Sryskyi, commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, 52,000 Russian targets were destroyed by strike bomber drones in October.
Since 2022, Ukraine’s use of strike-bomber drones has increased significantly in its war against Russia. They are used for long-range attacks deep inside Russian territory. Ukraine has been able undermine Russia’s military capabilities by targeting ammunition depots and oil refineries.
Oleksandr Sryskyi, the commander-in-chief, reported that strike-bomber drones were particularly effective in destroying 129 artillery units and 221 radio equipment. Over 4,000 Russian soldiers were also injured in the operations.
He said that the Ukrainian military conducted over 7,000 drone missions during October, achieving notable results despite challenging conditions.
Syrskyi stated that “the development of unmanned robotic systems and increasing combat capabilities of UAVs is one of our main priorities.”
The data was presented at a regular monthly review on unmanned systems operations where military leadership evaluated the performance and strategic implementations of Ukraine’s drone capability.
On 9 November, Ukrainian drones attacked the Aleksinsky Chemical Plant, located in Russia’s Tula Oblast. The plant is owned by Rostec, a defense contractor that produces gunpowder for Russian military purposes.
