Ukrainian defenders stopped Russian mechanized attacks in Kursk Oblast, and Donbas using minefield traps. This led the destruction of Russian tanks that were modern and halted a key offensive.
According to the of ‘s Armed Forces, Russian troops suffered significant losses in assaults because of minefields set up by Ukrainian forces in the Kursk Oblast.
Ukraine’s operation launched in Russia’s Kursk Oblast 6 August 2024 aimed to counter Russian aggressiveness and disrupt planned offensives. Ukrainian forces advanced 35 kilometers into Russian territories, capturing hundreds soldiers and inflicting 20,000 casualties reportedly on Russian forces. The operation was a reaction to intelligence that suggested Russia planned to create “buffer zones” in northern Ukraine.
The General Staff reports in October that Russian forces lost or damaged more than 20 pieces of equipment due to mine-explosive barrier. These barriers are being set up by the Support Forces engineering troops with the assistance of a tactical unit in Kursk Oblast.
The claims that Russian forces damaged or lost seven armored personnel carriers, seven infantry fighting vehicle, one “Tiger armored vehicle” and five main combat tanks in October.
The Russians lost their equipment because of the lack or poor execution in engineering reconnaissance, which should have involved engineering units clearing and detecting the mines. Ukrainian forces actively mine possible advance routes by using drones to drop mines in specific areas.
Militarnyi reports on Ukrainian soldiers from the 36th Marine Brigade, and the 1st Tank Brigade repelling a Russian attack in the Kursk Oblast. The Ukrainian brigade troops prepared the attack by mining Russians’ intended approach route to reach Ukrainian positions.
The Russians could not breach the Ukrainians’ well-coordinated defense with the small groups they sent to defend themselves without proper engineering reconnaissance.
Earlier, the 59th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade named after Yakiv handziuk, along with the 21st Separate Special Operations Battalion, of the Presidential Brigade, stopped an assault on southern outskirts Krasnohorivka using unconventional mining.
During the battle, during which the Russian tank in the lead, equipped with a modern TMT-K Mine Roller, detonated a mine, the assault column was stopped and then destroyed.
