Special Penitentiary Service of Georgia released a statement stating that they will not take Mikhail Saakashvili before a court.
A public statement released by the State Security Service revealed that it was planned to block access roads to the facility using vehicles owned by representatives from a number political parties. The statement stated that they planned to carry out destructive actions in which 500-600 vehicles were involved, which would create chaos and an uncontrollable situation. They added that such actions could also occur when he is escorted in court.
“It is important to note that, according to information requested by the Special Penitentiary Service (SPS) from the State Security Service as well as information received from this agency, the appearance of convicted M. Saakashvili before the courtroom because of his security concerns is associated with certain risk. M. Saakashvili, who is convicted at this stage, has stopped a significant part of his treatment. Taking him out to the trial and attending it poses an additional health risk.
The Special Penitentiary Service, in case of a relevant ruling, will allow M. Saakashvili to participate remotely in the court sessions, and also provide the option of holding the court sessions in the medical facility N18 for accused and convicts,” reads the press release.
