The Prime Minister’s Office announced on November 10 that U.K. Premier Keir starmer will meet French President Emmanuel Macron on Nov. 11, for talks about Ukraine’s needs in defense.
The meeting is a show solidarity among European and NATO leaders, as fears grow over the future support of the United States for its traditional Western Allies following Donald Trump’s reelection.
After attending Armistice Day ceremonies with French and British veterans, the two leaders will likely discuss Ukraine in private discussions.
Starmer’s office stated that the talks would “reflect the close bonds between both countries, many of which were forged and cemented through the sacrifices of British and French soldiers in the frontline,”
Starmer’s visit is the first time since Winston Churchill’s visit in 1944 that a British leader has taken part in France’s Armistice Day celebrations.
Armistice Day is celebrated on November 11, 1918, in the U.S. and the U.K., to commemorate the armistice that was signed in World War I.
