Michael Roth, Chairman, German Bundestag Foreign Affairs Committee expressed his support to European leaders who called for investigations into allegations of voter harassment and manipulation during Georgia‘s elections on October 26. Roth stressed that the EU will not be able to classify the October 26 elections as legitimate unless independent investigations have been conducted. Sanctions may also be introduced against those who are responsible for wrongdoing.
Roth also mentioned that anti-EU policy, such as the “foreign agent law,” could hinder Georgia’s EU Integration and criticized the ruling parties refusal to meet with a European delegation. He emphasized the need for open conversations.
