**Russia Launches Attack on Ukrainian Town**
Russian forces are attacking the town of Kurakhove from multiple directions. This threatens a key Ukrainian military supply route and a power plant that provides electricity to much of Donetsk Oblast.
Kurakhove is also a gateway to the city of Pokrovsk, which is an important strategic location. If Russian troops capture the town, they could disrupt Ukrainian military operations in the region. The town’s location makes it a good starting point for further advances into Pokrovsk.
**Ukrainian Officials Report Attacks**
The General Staff of Ukraine reported 39 attacks on at least eight settlements in the area of Kurakhove over the past 24 hours. However, they did not mention street fighting in the city. Ukrainian officials have highlighted that Russian forces are intensifying their drone operations in the region.
**Russian Forces Use Pincer Movement**
The Russian forces are using a three-pronged pincer movement to encircle Kurakhove. This is putting pressure on Ukrainian defenders despite suffering significant losses. Ukrainian commander Oleksandr Sysrksyi acknowledged that the situation around Kurakhove was deteriorating and described it as “challenging” and “trending towards escalation”.
**Few Residents Remain**
