North Korea and Russia Agree to Mutual Defense Pact
The government of North Korea has officially agreed to a mutual defense treaty with Russia. This means that both countries have promised to help each other if they are attacked by an enemy.
This agreement was made after reports of fighting between Ukrainian soldiers and North Korean troops near the Russian border. The North Korean news agency confirmed that the country‘s leader, Kim Jong Un, had approved the treaty.
The treaty was signed into law by Russian President Vladimir Putin last week. It says that either country must provide military help immediately if they are attacked.
North Korea’s foreign minister, Choe Son Hui, recently visited Russia and said that her country will stand with Russia until “the day of victory“. This has raised concerns among Western countries, which have accused North Korea of sending soldiers to support Russia in its war against Ukraine. They also claim that Pyongyang supplied Moscow with missiles and artillery.
The G7 group of nations has denounced the growing military cooperation between North Korea and Russia. They are worried that North Korean soldiers could be trained to use ballistic missiles, which would break United Nations rules.
This is a developing story.
