Georgian Leader Rejects Election Mandate
Tina Bokuchava, the leader of the Unity–National Movement, said today that she will not accept any mandates from the recent parliamentary elections. She called the election a total fraud.
The Central Election Commission does not have the right to send documents from members of the Unity-National Movement to Parliament, Bokuchava claimed.
She stated that it was clear on the day of the election that the results did not reflect the will of the Georgian people. The Unity-National Movement has said that they do not recognize the elections as legitimate and reject parliamentary mandates.
The Central Election Commission has been told that the Unity-National Movement, which includes Bokuchava’s party on its list, is no longer registered.
Bokuchava explained that letters were sent to the Central Election Commission stating their free will. They asked that none of them be given a temporary mandate. The names and surnames of those who appeared on the parliamentary electoral lists should not be sent to Parliament to recognize their authority. This was confirmed by signing.
The party refused to accept mandates resulting from the parliamentary election, where there was total fraud. Bokuchava stated that this goes against the most important principle of the constitution – free will. The secrecy of the election and the expressed will of the Georgian people could not be reflected.
