**Ukraine Arrests Suspected Russian Spy**
On November 13, Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) caught a man they think is a Russian spy in Chernihiv. The suspect, a 45-year-old local man, was believed to be working for Russia’s GRU military intelligence agency.
The SBU said the man had been setting fires to Ukrainian military and civilian sites. He also did “test missions” by burning a military vehicle and a transformer substation. After that, he got orders from his Russian handler to gather information about possible Russian attacks in northern Ukraine.
**The Suspect’s Plans**
The suspect rented apartments with good views of defense and civilian facilities. He wanted to use homemade explosives and kamikaze drones to attack Ukrainian soldiers. The SBU said they caught him before he could carry out these plans.
The authorities took his phone and computer as evidence. The suspect is now facing serious charges under Ukraine’s Criminal Code, which could lead to life imprisonment if he gets convicted.
**Recent Cases of Russian Espionage**
This case is not an isolated one. The SBU has been reporting many cases of suspected Russian spies and saboteurs being caught in Ukraine lately. Many of these cases involve setting fire to Ukrainian soldiers’ cars for money.
The SBU regularly stops these plots before they can cause harm. They also seize evidence, like phones and computers, to use against the suspects in court.
