MEP Markéta Gregorová spoke about the recent elections in Georgia at a debate in the European Parliament. She said that she personally saw many problems with the way the election was run.
Gregorová was an observer at the 2021 Georgian elections and had some concerns even then. However, she did not see direct manipulation. But this time around, she says she witnessed ballot stuffing, forgery, and other issues. Voters were also intimidated.
The MEP believes that these problems are part of a bigger trend of democratic backsliding by the Georgian government. She thinks that the recent elections were not fair and that there should be an investigation into what went wrong.
Gregorová is calling for sanctions against those responsible for the problems with the election. She wants to support the people of Georgia in their pursuit of democracy.
