Russian Forces Push Toward Kupiansk, Ukraine
Ukrainian forces are fighting back against Russian advances in the city of Kupiansk. On November 13, Russian troops made a limited assault on the city. They managed to enter the outskirts but were pushed back by Ukrainian Defense Forces.
Russian forces have been intensifying their bombardment of Kupiansk and the surrounding areas. Two columns of Russian soldiers advanced towards the city from Lyman Pershyi. One column included two MT-LB vehicles, an infantry fighting vehicle, and a tank. The second column’s composition was unknown as it moved at night.
The Ukrainian military disabled one MT-LB in a forest. A second MT-LB reached Svatove Street but was destroyed on Nekrasova Street in Kupiansk. Russian soldiers tried to escape but were met with further resistance from Ukrainian forces.
A tank was also hit near the battle site. Ukrainian UAV units from the 116th and 14th Mechanized Brigade eliminated part of the landing force. The defenders also stopped Russian reinforcements from reaching Kupiansk.
Kupiansk is a strategic city in Ukraine, sitting on the Oskil River. It serves as an administrative center and logistical hub for both Ukrainian and Russian forces. The city’s location makes it crucial to Russia’s war efforts.
Ukrainian commander Yurii Fedorenko had previously said that it was unlikely Russian soldiers would capture Kupiansk before the New Year.
