The Prosecutor’s Office in Georgia is being used as a tool of political persecution, according to Levan Bezhashvili, a leader of the “Unity – National Movement”. He says that the prosecutor’s office is used to cover up and hide evidence of election rigging.
Bezhashvili claims that the prosecutor’s office wants to control everything. They are trying to make sure that no one can remove information from the election apparatus. This is why international investigative structures should be created to look into election fraud in Georgia.
The opposition politician also spoke about the lack of trust in the prosecutor’s office. He says that people do not believe it because of its reputation. Bezhashvili also mentioned that all interrogations are conducted with a magistrate judge and no opposition leader has refused to provide evidence.
Bezhashvili responded to a statement made by Mamuka Khazaradze, the leader of “Strong Georgia“. Khazaradze suggested that opposition parties should make a joint statement on opening lists and resigning mandates at the same time. Bezhashvili said that his party supports this idea and is open to joint actions with other opposition parties.
There are different opinions about not recognizing the results of the Parliament. Some think it’s necessary to prevent the Central Election Commission (CEC) and the legislative body from notifying the powers of 100 deputies. Bezhashvili said that before the CEC summary protocol, parties should fix their position and not participate in drafting the protocol.
He also mentioned that closing lists and terminating powers already refers to renouncing mandates. The leader of “Unity – National Movement” believes that a one-party parliament and dictatorship will not last long in Georgia.
