Georgian Dream Leader Sees Candidate Status in EU Membership Bid
The chairman of the Georgian Dream, Irakli Kobakhidze, has reacted to a report by the European Commission. He believes that if decisions were made based on objective criteria rather than politics last year, Georgia would have already been granted candidate status for EU membership.
According to Kobakhidze, the European Commission‘s own evaluation document shows that Georgia should receive candidate status this year, based on objective criteria. He noted that Georgia is ahead of Moldova in almost all areas and suggested that Ukraine was given special treatment due to ongoing war in the country.
Kobakhidze stated that he believes there is no alternative for Georgia but to receive candidate status from the EU. The decision will be made by the European Commission, followed by the Council.
