**Ukraine Hits Russian Warships**
A recent attack by Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence (HUR) has damaged at least two Russian warships in the port of Kaspiysk. This is a major success for Ukraine, showing its ability to hit targets deep within Russia.
The UK Ministry of Defense says that on November 6, 2024, Ukraine used an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to attack the port of Kaspiysk. At least two Russian Navy vessels were damaged, including two Gepard-class frigates called Tatarstan and Dagestan.
Other small missile ships in the area were also hit, but the extent of the damage is not clear. The UK’s Defense Ministry says that Russia will likely repair these ships quickly.
**Russia’s Caspian Flotilla**
The Russian Navy uses its Caspian Flotilla to attack Ukraine from time to time. In 2022, they used this fleet to launch many attacks against Ukraine. However, in 2023-2024, their activity decreased significantly.
This recent attack by Ukraine is a sign that the country can hit Russian targets even when they are considered safe for operations. The UK’s Defense Ministry says that Ukraine was able to fly its UAV over a large area of Russia without being detected, which caused concern among Russian leaders.
