Russian Forces May Target Ukraine’s Energy Infrastructure
As winter approaches, there is a risk of Russian forces targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in a large-scale missile attack. Ukrainian officials warn that Russian submarines in the Black Sea are capable of launching missiles from secure underwater positions.
Russian Submarines Pose Threat
According to Ukrainian Captain Andrii Ryzhenko, former Deputy Chief of Staff of the Ukrainian Navy, Russian submarines can launch Kalibr missiles from the Black Sea. This is a significant threat because these missiles can cause widespread damage to Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Kalibr Missile Attacks Have Damaged Energy Infrastructure
The use of Kalibr missiles has severely damaged Ukraine’s thermal power plants and substations, leading to frequent power outages in the country. Ukrainian forces have had to constantly defend and repair their energy facilities to prevent further disruptions.
Russian Forces Can Launch Up to 90 Missiles at Once
Ryzhenko reported that Russian ships can simultaneously launch up to 90 Kalibr missiles at Ukraine. This is a significant threat because it allows Russia to cause widespread damage in a single attack.
Submarines Are Almost Constantly Present in the Black Sea
The former Ukrainian Navy official revealed that Russian submarines are almost constantly present in the Black Sea, armed with Kalibr missiles. These submarines can launch missiles from underwater positions at a depth of 50 meters.
Massive Attacks Are Possible
Ryzhenko warned that massive Kalibr missile strikes could be accompanied by launches from airborne carriers, such as strategic bombers Tu-95, Tu-22, and Tu-160. He believes that Russia is preparing for a large-scale attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
