Russia is now making a new type of drone that can cause severe damage to civilians. This was found out by an investigation done by the Associated Press (AP) on November 16.
The drones, called thermobaric drones, work by creating a big wave of heat and pressure that can go through thick walls. They are so powerful that they can cause serious injuries, such as collapsed lungs, crushed eyeballs, and brain damage. The use of these drones would be very scary for civilians to deal with.
This is not the first time Russia has used thermobaric warheads in Ukraine. But now they’re putting them on drones, which makes it a more serious situation. These drones are meant to attack Ukrainian cities and overwhelm their air defenses. They’re being made in Russia’s Alabuga Special Economic Zone.
Russia continues to use drones to attack Ukrainian cities, especially as the winter months approach. They’re planning to target energy facilities. The thermobaric drones would be useful for this because they can go through thick walls and underground energy substations.
Other countries, like Iran and China, are helping Russia make these drones. In fact, Reuters reported that Russia has a secret program in China to develop and produce attack drones for use in Ukraine.
The EU’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, said there’s “convincing” evidence that China is producing lethal aid for Russia. This was mentioned ahead of an upcoming meeting of EU foreign ministers on November 18.
China claims to be neutral in the Russia-Ukraine war, but they’re still helping Russia by giving them dual-use goods and deepening economic ties with Moscow.
