Russian Forces Fail to Hold Ground in Terny, Donetsk Oblast
Russian forces were unable to maintain their foothold in the strategic settlement of Terny, Donetsk Oblast. Despite initial gains supported by intense aerial bombardments, they stretched too thin and Ukrainian drones exploited their vulnerabilities.
The Russian army had advanced towards Terny with some of its best units, including those from the 144th Motorized Rifle Brigade. They used air support to target Ukrainian positions in Terny, but this was not enough to secure a strong hold on the settlement.
Ukrainian forces launched intense counterattacks as soon as they sensed the Russian advance was faltering. This led to a standstill in the fighting, with neither side able to gain significant ground.
The location of Terny is crucial for Ukrainian defenses along the Zherebets River. If captured, it could lead to the collapse of Ukrainian positions on this bank. However, the Russians‘ poor planning and logistical challenges have hindered their ability to hold onto the settlement.
Numerous videos have surfaced showing significant Russian personnel and equipment losses in the fighting. These include destroyed personnel carriers, killed or wounded soldiers, and a lack of ammunition and food supplies.
Military analysts are concerned about the sustainability of Russian operations due to high casualty rates. They argue that Ukrainian forces maintain a fire control advantage from elevated positions on the west bank of the Zherebets River, which allows them to coordinate ground forces, artillery, and drones strikes effectively.
