Iran Denies Meeting Between UN Envoy and Elon Musk
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi says there was no meeting between the country’s UN envoy and US billionaire Elon Musk. Reports of a one-hour conversation in New York on Monday were dismissed by Iran as “media fabrication”.
The Iranian minister said that such a meeting would not be appropriate at this time, especially since the new US administration has not yet clarified its policies.
“We are still waiting for the new US administration to clarify its policies,” Araqchi said. “And based on that, we will adjust our own policies.”
Iran’s Foreign Ministry had already denied the reports of a meeting earlier. Araqchi repeated this denial in an interview with state television.
Reports of the meeting were first made by US media outlets, including The New York Times. However, Iran called these reports “a fabricated story by American media” and said they were intended to test the waters for such an occurrence.
Araqchi emphasized that Iran’s leadership had not authorized any meeting between the country’s UN envoy and Elon Musk. He referred to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in making this point.
