Student Protest in Georgia: Manifesto Calls for Re-elections
A group of students from several universities in Georgia has issued a manifesto criticizing the October 26 elections as illegitimate and demanding re-elections.
The students argue that the parliament formed after the elections is not legitimate. They claim that the ruling party, Georgian Dream, falsified the results and that this undermines democracy and the state constitution.
The manifesto also mentions alleged government interference in education issues, such as discriminatory decisions on university authorization and censorship in teaching. The students see these actions as an attack on education and a sign of state capture by the ruling party.
The students assert their right to quality education and claim that no one has the right to take over the government if it doesn’t respond to the people’s will. They call for non-violent protest and unity among students to bring about change.
The manifesto is signed by several universities, including Ilias University, Tbilisi State Medical University, and the University of Georgia.
