**German Greens Leader Promises to Send Taurus Missiles to Ukraine**
Germany’s Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck said he would allow the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine if elected as chancellor. In a recent interview with ARD television, Habeck answered “yes” when asked if he would authorize the missile deliveries.
Habeck has served as economy minister in Germany’s coalition government and has made difficult decisions about arms deliveries before. He said that allowing Taurus missile delivery is part of his job.
Germany is preparing for snap elections on February 23, 2025, after Chancellor Olaf Scholz fired Finance Minister Christian Lindner, leading to the collapse of the coalition government.
**Taurus Missiles Have Longer Range Than Other Arms**
The German-Swedish Taurus missiles have a range of up to 500 kilometers (310 miles), which is longer than other arms provided to Ukraine by the US, UK, and France. This has made them more desirable for Ukrainian military forces.
**Opposition Leader Also Promises Missile Delivery**
Friedrich Merz, the candidate for chancellor from the opposition center-right CDU/CSU alliance, also said he would allow Taurus missile delivery. However, he wants to issue an ultimatum to Russian President Vladimir Putin and lift restrictions on already provided arms first.
**German Elections Are Getting Closer**
The German elections are getting closer, with polls showing the opposition CDU/CSU leading at 33%. The Social Democrats are in second place with 16%, followed by the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) with 18%.
