Lithuania Questions Georgia‘s Election Fairness
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis, says the country does not believe the elections in Georgia were fair. He made this statement before a meeting with other European ministers.
Mr. Landsbergis said that an independent investigation is needed to understand what happened during the election. He also suggested that if the Georgian government refuses to cooperate with the EU on this issue, it may indicate that Georgia is not committed to joining the European Union.
A meeting today will discuss this issue and possible sanctions against Georgia. It’s unclear how many ministers agree with Lithuania’s concerns.
