Georgia’s Prime Minister, Irakli Kobakhidze, spoke about a recent move by the opposition.
Four parties, which are actually one political force, made demands to the European Union. These demands were announced at a government meeting led by Kobakhidze.
The main demands of the opposition include stopping Georgia’s process of integrating with Europe. They also want the EU to stop giving money to Georgia and to stop talking to Georgian authorities. Furthermore, they asked that 120 million euros be used to strengthen an agency in Georgia instead of being spent on European integration.
Kobakhidze compared these demands to a message sent by Sergo Orjonikidze to Moscow a long time ago. However, this message was actually sent to Brussels, the seat of the EU, and not to Russia’s capital, Moscow.
The Prime Minister believes that the public will start to see the opposition’s true intentions and may reevaluate their support for these radical forces. He also thanked law enforcement agencies for managing the situation so far.
Kobakhidze emphasized the importance of being careful while dealing with the opposition. The government’s goal is to ensure the safety of citizens, maintain stability in the country, and promote peaceful development.
