**Massive Power Cuts Hit Ukraine After Russian Attack**
Ukraine is facing widespread power cuts after Russia launched a massive attack on the country’s energy infrastructure. Ukrainian officials have announced emergency power restrictions for 18 November in most of the country.
On 17 November, Russia deployed around 120 missiles and 90 drones against Ukraine’s power grid. This was the largest such operation since August 2024. The attack resulted in over one million consumers losing electricity and damaged several power generation and transmission facilities.
**Power Cuts Will Affect Many**
Two simultaneous rounds of power outages will be implemented from 6:00 to 22:00, affecting both industrial and residential consumers. The measures are being taken by Ukrenergo, the national power utility. Emergency crews in Odesa are working to restore power and reconnect homes.
**Emergency Response Underway**
In response to the attack, emergency support centers called “Points of Invincibility” have been activated across Ukraine. These centers will provide food, water, and other essential services. Educational institutions in some areas, including Odesa, have been closed until further notice.
**Previous Attacks Had Similar Impact**
This is not the first time Russia has targeted Ukraine’s energy system. In August 2024, a similar attack affected around 8 million households. Since October 2022, Russian forces have conducted over 1,000 strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, resulting in significant losses.
