EU to Freeze Funds for Georgian Government
The European Union‘s High Representative, Josep Borrell, has announced that over 100 million euros will be frozen and redirected from the government of Georgia to civil society organizations. This decision was made in response to concerns about fair elections in the country.
According to Borrell, the EU will continue to support the people of Georgia in their struggle for fair elections. He also stated that the accession process for Georgia is being suspended until the government returns to its original path.
Borrell explained that the funds previously directed to the government will now be used to help civil society organizations fight for fair elections. This change aims to ensure that the money benefits the people of Georgia rather than the government.
The EU’s move is an attempt to show support for the Georgian people and their democratic values. By suspending funding to the government, the EU hopes to encourage changes in the country’s leadership and pave the way for a more inclusive and fair electoral process.
