**Germany Won’t Send Missiles to Ukraine**
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will not send Taurus missiles to Ukraine. This was confirmed by a government spokesperson, Wolfgang Buchner.
Scholz has made it clear that he doesn’t want to supply the missiles. He is worried that this could lead to an escalation with Russia.
Other countries have given Ukraine long-range missiles before. The US and the UK gave them ATACMS and Storm Shadow/SCALP missiles. These missiles can reach targets in Russia, but not as far as Taurus missiles can.
**Changing Politics**
Germany’s politics may be about to change soon. There are elections on February 23. The main opposition group, CDU/CSU, is doing well in the polls. They might become the new government and could change Germany’s policies towards Ukraine.
The leader of CDU/CSU, Friedrich Merz, said that he would allow Taurus missiles to be sent to Ukraine if certain conditions were met. These include giving Russia an ultimatum and lifting restrictions on arms.
Another politician, Robert Habeck, also wants to send the missiles if he becomes chancellor.
