Russia’s Military Strategy in Ukraine Revealed
The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) has made important discoveries about Russia‘s military strategy in Ukraine. They found that Russia is still trying to capture the city of Pokrovsk, despite facing many challenges.
Russian forces are planning to attack Pokrovsk from the south and southeast during the winter months of 2024-25. They want to focus on cities like Toretsk and Kurakhove. This shows that Russia believes taking control of urban areas is key to their success.
However, ISW’s report suggests that Russia’s strategy is not working as planned. They have lost around 80,000 troops in the past two months, but only replaced about half of them. This means they are struggling to keep up with their losses.
The report also says that Russia is not producing enough military equipment to replace what has been destroyed or captured by Ukraine and its allies. This makes it harder for Russia to maintain its war effort.
ISW warns that Ukraine’s success depends on using these weaknesses against Russia and challenging their control. The report emphasizes the importance of Western military aid, as delays have previously weakened Ukraine’s defense.
In a separate attack, Russian forces launched missiles and drones at Ukraine at night, but Ukrainian air defenses were able to intercept many of them. The attacks caused five civilian deaths, 27 injuries, and damage in several regions.
