EU Sanctions Iran Over Ukraine Support
The European Union has widened its sanctions on Iran. This is because Iran supports Russia in the war against Ukraine.
On November 18, the EU announced new rules to stop money from being sent to places that are owned or controlled by people and groups that Iran wants to help. These places also have to do with sending Iranian drones or missiles to Russia.
The EU is also stopping the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) and its boss, Mohammad Reza Khiabani, from doing business.
Iran does not agree with these sanctions. Their official news agency said that Ali Akbar Safaei, who is in charge of Iran’s ports and maritime organization, called the sanctions “baseless.”
The EU has also punished three Russian shipping companies for helping to send Iranian weapons to Russia. These companies are MG Flot, VTS Broker, and Arapax.
This is not the first time the EU has sanctioned Iran. On October 14, they punished seven people and seven groups over Iran’s help with missiles and drones going to Russia.
The US and other Western countries have also put sanctions on Iran because of its support for Russia in Ukraine.
