**US Gives Ukraine Permission to Strike Russia**
The US has allowed Ukraine to use American missiles to hit military targets in Russia. This is a good step for supporting Ukraine’s defense, says Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp.
Veldkamp wishes the decision had been kept secret from the media. He thinks it would have been better if the Russians didn’t know about it first.
Ukraine has asked Western countries for long-range missiles and permission to use them on Russian soil. Now, they can do that with American help. This is part of Ukraine’s plan to win the war against Russia.
The US decision means Ukraine can now hit targets in Russia using its ATACMS missiles. Some reports say this permission only applies to Russian forces and North Korean troops in a certain area of Russia.
**International Law Allows It**
Veldkamp says moving the war onto Russia’s territory is allowed under international law. He thinks it’s fair that Ukraine can use Western weapons on Russian soil, since that’s where the aggression started.
Ukraine has been asking for long-range missiles and permission to use them on Russian soil for a long time. Now, with American support, they have more options to defend themselves against Russia.
**Potential Changes in US Policy**
This decision comes just before a new president takes office in the US. President-elect Donald Trump might change US policy on Ukraine when he becomes president in 2025.
