Chemical Weapons Found in Ukraine Conflict Zone
The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) has confirmed that prohibited tear gas was used in a conflict zone in eastern-central Ukraine.
The OPCW investigated an incident near the village of Illinka, in Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. They collected samples from a trench along confrontation lines between opposing forces. The investigation found 2-Chlorobenzylidenemalononitrile (CS), a prohibited tear gas.
This is not the first time allegations of chemical weapons use have been made in Ukraine’s conflict zone. Both Russia and Ukraine have reported using chemical agents since February 2022, when the Russo-Ukrainian war began.
