Opposition MP Roman Gotsiridze Speaks Out Against Re-Export of Cars from Georgia

Georgian opposition MP Roman Gotsiridze has spoken out against the sale of cars worth 964 million dollars as re-exports from Georgia to Kyrgyzstan. He believes that this is a way of avoiding sanctions.

Gotsiridze explained that while official statistics show that cars worth 50 million dollars were imported into Kyrgyzstan, it appears that goods worth over 900 million dollars have “disappeared”. He suggests that these cars are being “framed” in Russia, as they enter Kyrgyzstan through this country.

In essence, Gotsidze believes that the sale of cars from Georgia to Kyrgyzstan is a way of bypassing sanctions. If the cars had been exported and then returned to Russia, there may have been some legal justification for the transaction. However, this is not the case here.

Georgian foreign trade statistics show a 5.5% increase in goods sold compared to last year’s figures. The country’s main trading partners are Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Azerbaijan.
