Russia’s Invasion Reaches 1,000 Days
Today marks a grim milestone: 1,000 days since Russia launched its war against Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the parliament to mark this day.
Zelenskyy said that the responsibility for the war lies with all Russians, not just the country’s leader Vladimir Putin. He stated that many Russians support the armed aggression against Ukraine. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights says at least 12,162 civilians have been killed and over 26,000 injured since February 2022.
The president stressed that this war is a collective responsibility and cannot be excused by state repression or propaganda. He also said that Russia’s actions are part of its culture and that not just Putin, but all Russians must take a clear position on Ukraine, Crimea, Donbas, and the International Criminal Court warrant against Putin.
Ukrainian defense forces struck a strategic Russian ammunition depot in Bryansk Oblast earlier today, causing multiple explosions. This marked the first time Ukraine’s Armed Forces used US-made ATACMS ballistic missiles to strike a military target inside Russia.
The Ukrainian Ombudsman reported that over 14,000 citizens are being held under arrest by Russia. Additionally, at least 20,000 children have been abducted by Russia, with only 600 repatriated so far. The Kremlin is accused of using church connections to erase the identities of deported Ukrainian kids.
