Ukraine to Focus on Key Targets
A new report from the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) says Ukraine should use its American-made ATACMS missiles more carefully. The missiles can hit deep into Russian territory and hurt Russia’s military.
The US recently allowed Ukraine to use these powerful missiles against Russian targets. This is a big change in policy. But the number of missiles available is limited, so Ukraine needs to plan carefully.
According to Dr. Jack Watling, a RUSI expert, using ATACMS in a few key places can cause more damage than spreading them out over many areas. However, this requires careful planning and coordination with other forces.
Ukraine’s military structure can make it hard to achieve big results. Even when Ukraine hits important targets, like Russian ammunition dumps, the effect is not always lasting.
The RUSI report suggests that Ukraine should coordinate its ATACMS strikes with other long-range systems, such as British missiles, to get through Russian air defenses and cause significant damage.
Germany‘s Taurus missiles are also crucial in this effort. The US has a limited supply of ATACMS, so Western countries need to provide more support to keep pressure on Russia.
