Russia Updates Nuclear Doctrine
Russia has changed its nuclear doctrine. The new rules say that if a country with no nuclear weapons attacks Russia, and the attacker gets help from a country with nuclear power, it will be considered a joint attack on Russia.
The US government doesn’t think this change is real. They don’t believe Russia is planning to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine, despite recent changes to its nuclear doctrine.
A spokesperson for the US Department of Defense said there’s no reason for them to change their own nuclear policies. They’re just watching the situation closely.
Russia has been talking about updating its nuclear doctrine for a while now. The US government says it’s not surprising that they’ve finally done it, but they are still monitoring the situation.
There is tension between Russia and Ukraine because Ukraine has gotten stronger and Russia has let North Korean soldiers into parts of Ukraine.
