Russian Troops Occupy Nova Illinka in Donetsk Oblast
Russian military forces have taken control of the town of Nova Illinka, located in the eastern part of the Donetsk Oblast. This happened according to an analysis by DeepState on November 20.
Nova Illinka is one of several locations in the Donbas region where Russian troops have made gains. Other areas include Dalnie, Antonivka, Pustynka, and Toretsk. The Kurakhove direction, which is west of Donetsk, has seen the most fighting with over 690 military encounters recorded in two weeks. Another challenging area is the Pokrovsk direction, where there have been 435 combat engagements.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces’ General Staff reported heavy fighting but did not give details on losses. The Institute for the Study of War also confirmed Russian advances near Pokrovsk, Vuhleder, and Toretsk.
Vuhledar has resisted attacks since 2022 and is now a key point in Ukrainian defenses. Russian troops entered the city on October 1, 2024.
Russian forces are trying to capture Pokrovsk, an important logistics hub for Ukraine’s military operations in Donetsk Oblast. If they succeed, it could compromise Ukraine’s defense lines.
Ukrainian forces have successfully defended against a Russian attack in New York, using drones and hill positions to push back the enemy. This has resulted in high casualties and logistical challenges for Russia.
