Russia Escalates Attacks on Ukraine with First ICBM Strike
Russia has launched its first-ever intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) strike against Dnipro, Ukraine. This marks a significant escalation in the conflict. The attack comes as former Ukrainian Armed Forces chief Zaluzhnyi warned that World War III began in 2024.
Russian forces have also occupied Nova Illinka in Donetsk Oblast, according to an analysis by DeepState. In addition, Russian officials claim that Ukrainian drones were intercepted in three regions of Russia and missiles in a fourth, causing industrial damage in Rostov.
Ukraine allegedly targets Russia’s Volgograd, Rostov, Kursk, and Astrakhan oblasts. Russian forces are struggling to maintain control due to Ukraine’s innovative tactics and modern weaponry. The Black Sea Fleet has been forced to retreat from Crimea’s historic ports to safer waters.
UK intelligence reports that Russia’s fleet is still capable of supporting land operations despite being outmaneuvered by Ukraine. Sanctions have also had an impact, with half of Russia’s A320/A321neo fleet grounded due to engine issues.
Ukraine has established its first training facility for ground drone operators, which will command robots to scout enemy positions and deliver supplies. The US is preparing a $275 million military package for Ukraine ahead of the Trump transition.
Humanitarian concerns are also rising as Russia’s weekend strikes badly hit Ukraine’s biggest private power producer. Occupied Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant risks blackout after Russian shelling disables power line, while Reuters reports that 15 people were injured in Dnipro’s Kryvyi Rih due to a Russian missile strike.
