**UK May Arrest Israeli PM Netanyahu**
The UK government has said that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could be arrested if he visits the country. This is because an international arrest warrant was issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for alleged war crimes in Gaza.
The ICC issued warrants against Netanyahu and Israel’s former Defense Minister Yoav Galant on Thursday. They are accused of committing war crimes during a conflict with Palestinian group Hamas in 2023.
**Government Will Comply**
When asked if Netanyahu would be arrested, a spokesperson for the prime minister said that the government will follow its “legal obligations”. This means they will do what is required by law, including sending a request to arrest him to a judicial official.
The UK has signed a convention with other countries that says they must act on ICC warrants. The government’s spokesperson also said that they respect the ICC’s independence and are focused on stopping violence in Gaza.
**International Reaction**
Other countries have reacted differently to the ICC’s decision. US President Joe Biden called it “outrageous”, while UK politician Dame Priti Patel criticized the court for drawing a moral equivalence between Israel’s actions and those of Hamas.
Israel denies the allegations, as does Hamas. The impact of the warrants will depend on whether other countries choose to enforce them.
