**Russia’s Missile Attack on Ukraine: What We Know**
On November 21, Russia launched a ballistic missile against the city of Dnipro in Ukraine. The attack was likely part of the “Kedr” missile complex tested by Russia in recent years.
According to Ukraine’s military intelligence (HUR), several Russian companies were involved in developing the “Kedr” system, which was tested at the Kapustin Yar test site in 2023 and 2024. The missile launched against Dnipro had six warheads, each carrying six submunitions, and covered nearly 1,200 kilometers (745 miles) in 15 minutes.
**Russia’s New Missile: “Oreshnik”**
Russian President Vladimir Putin said the attack was a test of Russia’s newest missile, an intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) called “Oreshnik”. However, little is known about this new missile system. Military expert Yan Matveev suggested that it could be a modified version of the “Rubezh” ICBM.
**International Reaction**
The attack on Dnipro has sparked international condemnation. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk described it as “pure genocide”, while NATO spokesperson Farah Dakhlallah said it was another example of Russia’s attacks on Ukrainian cities. The US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on dozens of Russian banks in response to the attack.
**Russian Attacks Continue**
This is not an isolated incident. Russia has continued its missile strikes against Ukraine, hitting residential areas and power plants. On November 22, Russian forces struck a residential area in the city of Sumy with Shahed drones, killing two people and injuring 12.
