Russia’s Military Changes After 1,000 Days of War
The war in Ukraine has lasted for over 1,000 days. Russia’s military forces have been significantly weakened by the conflict. They have lost more than 700,000 personnel and over 3,500 main battle tanks.
Before the war started in 2022, Russia was trying to build a professional army that could carry out complex operations. However, the losses they’ve suffered have made their force much less skilled. Now, Russian commanders are using basic tactics to make progress on the battlefield.
Russia’s personnel losses have been very high. Many of its soldiers have received minimal training. This has lowered the quality of Russia’s military force.
The UK’s Ministry of Defense reports that Russia has lost at least 3,500 main battle tanks and 7,500 armored vehicles. To replace these losses, Russia is using its stockpiles of tanks and armored vehicles from the Soviet era.
Despite their heavy losses, Russia’s forces have been making gains in Ukraine in 2024. This is because Russian leaders are willing to accept high casualty rates. Additionally, Russia has more military equipment than Ukraine.
