Russian Troops in Ukraine: A Large Number of Soldiers Engaged in Combat
Russia has a large number of soldiers, almost 580,000, fighting against Ukraine. This was revealed by Vadym Skibitskyi, the deputy head of Ukraine’s military intelligence agency.
The Russian government wants to increase its manpower and has made it easier for people to join the army with better financial rewards and fewer penalties if they do so. Many Russian soldiers are being sent to fight in Kursk Oblast, a region in Russia where Ukrainian forces have been trying to push back against Russian control.
About 60,000 Russian troops are currently stationed in Kursk Oblast. Additionally, almost 35,000 Russian Guard troops (also known as Rosgvardia) have been deployed to the areas of Ukraine controlled by Russia.
Russian President Vladimir Putin previously said that nearly 700,000 Russian troops were fighting in Ukraine. The Pentagon estimates that around 600,000 Russian soldiers have been killed since February 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine on a large scale.
As the war continues, Ukrainian forces are losing ground to Russian pressure. The cities of Pokrovsk and Toretsk in Donetsk Oblast are being targeted by Russian forces.
