Russia’s Missile Attack on Dnipro Was Likely a Show
A recent missile attack on the city of Dnipro in Ukraine was probably just for show. This is what German news outlet Bild reported, citing its military analyst Julian Ropcke.
The attack happened on November 21. Russia said it used a new kind of missile called Oreshnik. But Ropcke says this was unlikely. He thinks the real missile was actually similar to another Russian missile called RS-26 Rubezh.
Ropcke made this conclusion by looking at footage of the attack. He believes that the RS-26 missile does not carry any explosive charge or warhead. Instead, it has a fake load of the same size and weight to look like a real nuclear warhead.
This means that the damage caused by the missile was probably very minor. Russian President Vladimir Putin had said in a speech on November 21 that Russia’s Oreshnik missile was something new and powerful. He also said it could be equipped with a nuclear warhead, but this one did not have one.
