**France’s Foreign Minister Speaks Out on Ukraine Support**
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot has told the BBC that Western allies should not set “red lines” on providing military support to Ukraine. This comes after US President Joe Biden approved Ukraine’s use of long-range missiles to strike targets within Russia.
Barrot made his comments just days after the US approval, which was also discussed by French and UK leaders in Paris earlier this month. The meeting aimed to persuade the US to allow Ukraine to strike deep inside Russia with Western weapons before a new US administration takes office.
**France Supports Ukraine “As Long as Necessary”**
In an excerpt of his interview published on November 23, Barrot said that France will support Ukraine “as intensely and as long as necessary.” He stated that this is because Ukraine’s security is linked to European security. As Russia advances, the threat gets closer to Europe.
Barrot hinted that France may eventually invite Ukraine to join NATO as part of a five-point victory plan for President Volodymyr Zelensky. This could happen if Ukraine meets certain conditions in its discussions with friends and allies.
**France Considers All Options**
When asked about sending French troops to Ukraine, Barrot said that this option is not ruled out. He stated that France will “not discard any option” when it comes to supporting Ukraine.
Barrot’s comments come as Russia continues to intensify its attacks along the eastern front in Ukraine. Ukrainian forces are struggling to defend key positions, with almost 580,000 Russian soldiers participating in combat against Ukraine.
