**Ukraine Honors Victims of Holodomor**
On November 23, Ukraine marked the Holodomor Remembrance Day. This day honors the victims of a man-made famine that killed an estimated three to five million Ukrainians.
The Holodomor happened between 1932 and 1933 under Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin’s rule. The Ukrainian government says it was genocide against the Ukrainian people. Many countries, including Ukraine’s European allies, also marked this day.
**President Zelensky Speaks Out**
Ukraine’s President Volodomor Zelensky wrote on social media that “They wanted to destroy us… To kill us… To subjugate us. They failed.” He said they tried to hide the truth and silence the crimes forever, but failed again.
Other European countries also showed their support for Ukraine on this day. The European Parliament President Roberta Metsola wrote that Europe joins Ukraine in remembering and paying tribute to the victims.
