The opposition is planning to protest against the recognition of the parliament elected on October 26, which they claim was rigged. The ruling party officials have announced plans to convene MPs to recognize their credentials. President Salome Zurabishvili has not convened the new parliament, agreeing with opposition claims that the elections were unfair.
**Police and Courts Accused of Restricting Protests**
Protesters are increasingly concerned about police actions during demonstrations, including violence, arbitrary arrests, excessive fines, and detention for minor administrative violations. President Zurabishvili has criticized these actions, saying they amount to a threat to use force.
**Warning Over Blocking Parliament Building**
The MIA warned protesters that blocking the parliament building is punishable under the Criminal Code of Georgia, with prison sentences up to four years for group members who commit this crime. This warning comes after opposition leaders said they would prevent GD MPs from entering the building by “various means”.
**President Criticizes Government Over Action**
President Zurabishvili criticized the government’s actions on Facebook, saying it is another example of a “Russian-style rule” that violates constitutional principles.
