**Polish Farmers End Protest at Ukraine Border**
Polish farmers, who had blocked the Sheghini border crossing with Ukraine, have lifted their blockade. The protest lasted for just over a day, from November 23 to 24.
The farmers suspended their action after meeting with Poland’s Minister of Agriculture, Czeslaw Siekierski. They agreed to submit their demands by November 26, and the minister promised to respond by December 10.
The blockade had limited truck traffic from Ukraine, but allowed other vehicles like buses, cars, and humanitarian aid to pass through.
**Why Were They Protesting?**
Farmers were unhappy with Poland’s government for not keeping the agricultural tax rate the same in 2024 as it was in 2023. They were also concerned about a free trade agreement between the EU and South American countries.
“We want to put pressure on the government to prevent this agreement from being reached,” said Roman Kondrov, a protest organizer.
**Traffic Restored**
As of November 24, truck traffic at the border crossing has been fully restored. This means that trade between Poland and Ukraine can now proceed as normal.
This is not the first time Polish farmers have protested at the border. They have staged several protests since the start of the war in Ukraine, including demonstrations against Ukrainian agricultural imports in the EU.
