Georgian President Addresses the Nation
On November 25, Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili spoke to the nation in a video address. She said that the country‘s parliament no longer exists because it broke the constitution.
The President expressed sympathy for members of the ruling party who must now realize their time in power is temporary. She also apologized to Irakli Kobakhidze, one of the authors of the Georgian constitution.
President Zurabishvili emphasized that she doesn’t feel sorry for society as a whole. Instead, she praised young Georgians, saying they are the country’s future. She told them, “Your time has come.” The old way of doing things is over, and it’s time to prepare for free and fair elections.
She encouraged Georgians to be hopeful and look forward to new political forces emerging in the country. President Zurabishvili also emphasized that her duty as a leader is to remain in Georgia and work towards the next elections.
Some people have reported that President Zurabishvili may leave the country soon. However, she said that when she does travel abroad, she will inform the public about her destination, objectives, and meetings with other leaders.
The President reiterated her commitment to remaining in Georgia and working together with the nation to prepare for the next elections.
