Russian Attack on Sumy Leaves Two Dead, 13 Cars Damaged
A Russian missile attack on November 26 struck a residential building and kindergarten in the city of Sumy. The attack left at least two people dead.
The missile was launched at a vehicle service station but also hit a nearby multi-story building and damaged the inside of a nearby kindergarten. President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that one person may still be trapped under the ruble.
Emergency services are working to rescue anyone who might be trapped. The attack also damaged 13 cars, according to Suspilne.
Russia Shells Sumy Oblast 120 Times
The attack on Sumy Oblast is part of a larger pattern of Russian shelling in the region. Russia has shelled Sumy Oblast 120 times on November 26 alone, with 21 attacks on different parts of the region.
Russian drone also injured one person in the town of Velyka Pysarivka. The shelling is a daily occurrence for communities near Ukraine‘s northeastern border with Russia.
Recent Attacks Have Been Increasingly Destructive
A Russian missile strike on November 17 killed 11 people and injured another 89. There are fears that Russia may launch a new attack on Sumy Oblast in the coming months.
Russian army personnel are planning to create a “buffer zone” at the border with Sumy Oblast, according to Ukraine’s General Staff. This comes as Ukraine prepared to do the same with its surprise incursion into neighboring Kursk Oblast in August.
Russia Continues Drone and Missile Attacks
Russia continues its onslaught of drone and missile attacks ahead of an expected harsh winter. Overnight on November 25, Russia launched a record 188 drones at Ukraine, with Ukrainian air defenses able to down 76 drones across 17 oblasts.
