The ruling party in Georgia, Georgian Dream (GD), has chosen a candidate to be the country‘s next president. The person they have picked is Mikheil Kavelashvili, a former football player.

According to GD’s Honorary Chair Bidzina Ivanishvili, Kavelashvili has good qualities like honesty and patriotism. He believes that Kavelashvili will restore dignity to the presidential office, which he thinks has been lost under the current president. Ivanishvili also says that Kavelashvili will work for Georgia‘s people and not foreign powers.
**What Does Kavelashvili Say?**
Kavelashvili thanked GD for choosing him and promised to do a good job as president. He said he knows it’s a big responsibility, especially since the current president has been criticized for ignoring the country’s constitution. Kavelashvili vowed to restore the presidential office according to the constitution.
**Who Else Will Be Involved?**
The next president will be chosen by an electoral college made up of members of parliament and other local leaders. The election is set to take place on December 14.
